About the role
The Tier 1 (T1) IT Engineer is responsible for the installation, support, and first-level troubleshooting of IT systems deployed in maritime environments, with a focus on IP camera installations, Linux-based servers, and network connectivity.
This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to follow structured procedures while managing multiple concurrent tasks. The T1 IT Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring accurate system configuration, timely issue resolution, and high-quality documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Installation & Support
- Install, configure, and support IP camera systems, including PoE switches, cabling, and endpoint connectivity.
- Assist in the deployment and basic administration of Linux servers supporting AI and video analytics services.
- Perform first-level troubleshooting of hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
Networking & Connectivity
- Support and troubleshoot network connectivity issues related to:
- Switching and VLAN configuration
- Basic routing and IP addressing
- VPN connectivity (client and site-to-site)
- Verify end-to-end connectivity between cameras, network infrastructure, servers, and client systems.
- Escalate complex or unresolved issues to Tier 2 with accurate technical details and logs.
Monitoring, Ticketing & Documentation
- Monitor system health and alerts using available monitoring tools.
- Log, track, and update incidents, requests, and tasks using Jira, ensuring timely resolution and proper escalation.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, checklists, and installation records.
Operational Excellence
- Follow defined procedures, standards, and configuration guidelines.
- Manage multiple tasks effectively while meeting defined timelines and priorities.
Required Experience
- 4+ years of experience as an IT/Support Engineer for complex, multidisciplinary products and systems.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, switching, VLANs, basic routing).
- Experience with Linux operating systems, and IP-based surveillance systems or similar networked devices.
- Familiarity with Jira, Grafana, and Slack or equivalent tools.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Methodical and detail-oriented approach to tasks
- Reliable, accountable, and process-driven.
- Fluent English speaker is a must; other languages are a strong plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to maritime, industrial, or field-based environments.
- Basic understanding of firewalls and network security concepts.
- Experience supporting bandwidth-intensive or video-based applications.
